Net Zero Carbon
Ichigo Receives RE100 Certification
In keeping with its Ichigo 2030 vision, Ichigo is growing its real estate and clean energy businesses to further contribute to a sustainable society. Its Clean Energy business makes productive use of idle land to produce renewable energy, and its Sustainable Real Estate business preserves and improves real estate, lengthening buildings’ useful lives beyond 100 years. In line with this mission, Ichigo joined RE100, a global initiative to accelerate the transition of electricity used by businesses to 100% renewable energy to realize a Net Zero Carbon society.
Ichigo completed sourcing 100% renewable electricity across its operations (excluding assets sold, expected to be sold, and for which Ichigo does not have authority for energy management) in August 2024, excluding electricity generated by in-house cogeneration (0.1%), and received its RE100 certification following a review of its actual energy usage during the one-year period from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025. As a result, Ichigo achieved its Ichigo 2030 vision KPI of 100% renewable energy across all operations by 2025.
Net Zero Carbon Achievement
Ichigo is a sustainable infrastructure company. Its Clean Energy business makes productive use of idle land to produce renewable energy, and its Sustainable Real Estate business preserves and improves real estate, lengthening buildings’ useful lives beyond 100 years.
Ichigo currently operates solar and wind power plants in communities across Japan, generating c. 150MW of renewable energy (with another 50MW of projects currently in the pipeline). Ichigo has continued to generate renewable energy at these plants while using renewable energy throughout its businesses, and achieved its goal of net zero carbon by 2025.
In its Sustainable Real Estate business, Ichigo is working to end wasteful demolition in the Japanese real estate industry. While the average life of buildings in the US and Europe is c. 100 years, the prevailing model in Japan has been to tear buildings down within 30 years, generating significant waste and wasteful demand for raw materials and energy in the construction process. We will continue to sustainably repurpose and reuse real estate to minimize our environmental impacts and contribute to local communities.
Ichigo believes it is our social responsibility to maintain net zero carbon in line with our mission to Make The World More Sustainable.
Message from Ollie Wilson, Head of RE100 at the Climate Group
Since joining RE100 in 2021, Ichigo has steadily advanced towards their goal of procuring 100% renewable electricity, and we’re delighted to congratulate Ichigo on achieving this remarkable milestone in a market where sourcing renewables remains difficult. Ichigo’s leadership sends a powerful signal to corporates and policymakers that the future is renewable. We look forward to working closely together to continue this mission and unlock renewables access in Japan.
