Re-Design ProjectHOTEL IL PALAZZO

Located in downtown Fukuoka, Hotel Il Palazzo is Japan’s most important landmark hotel. It is Japan’s first design hotel built in 1989 by one of the leading architects of the 20th century, Italian Aldo Rossi, and the pathbreaking master of Japanese interior design, Shigeru Uchida, that came together to revolutionize the aesthetics of Fukuoka's Haruyoshi district, demonstrating the power of urban architecture and design. Aldo Rossi's first architectural creation in Japan was supported not only by Shigeru Uchida but also by the participation of world-famous creators such as Ettore Sottsass, Gaetano Pesce, Shiro Kuramata, Ikuyo Mitsuhashi, and Ikko Tanaka.

Ichigo began conducting large-scale renovations since January 2022 in partnership with the Uchida Design Institute, a design studio that inherited the design principles of Shigeru Uchida, bringing the original hotel concept up-to-date with today’s needs. Ichigo re-opened Hotel Il Palazzo on October 1, 2023.
